Privacy Policy
Breakout helps hockey players work out where to play next and reach the coaches there. Most of our players are teenagers, so this policy is written to be read by them and their parents. It covers what we keep, why, who else handles it, and how to take it with you or delete it.
Who we are
Breakout is run by Hayden Baldassarre, based in Alberta, Canada. We decide what happens to your information and are responsible for it. Our privacy contact, who answers every request below, is reached at baldassarre.hayden@gmail.com.
What we keep
- Your account: your email address and a password. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash, so nobody at Breakout can read it.
- Your player profile: name, date of birth, position, shooting side, height, weight, current league and team, season stats, GPA and graduation year, home region, budget, goals, highlight links and bio. You type these in, or bring them from Elite Prospects when you choose to.
- Outreach: the teams and coaches you add, their names and email addresses, and the emails you draft, with their status and follow-up dates.
- Video: the clips you upload, how long they are, and the moments you tag in them. Clips are stored privately; only you can open them.
- Billing: if you pay for Pro, your plan, its status and renewal date. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- Agreements: when you (and, for a minor, a parent or guardian) agreed to these terms, including the parent’s or guardian’s name and email, and the internet address and browser used, as a record of that agreement.
- Sign-in cookies: one set of cookies keeps you signed in. We don’t use advertising or analytics trackers.
Why we keep it
Only to run Breakout for you:
- to project the leagues and teams that fit you next season;
- to draft emails to coaches and remind you when to follow up;
- to store, play and measure your clips;
- to bill Pro, and to keep the records the law asks of a business that takes payments;
- to keep accounts secure and answer you when you write to us.
We never sell your information, rent it, or use it for advertising. We don’t send anything to coaches for you: when you send an email, it goes from your own email app, and you see exactly what it says first.
Players under the age of majority
Breakout is for players 13 and older. A player under the age of majority where they live (18 in most places; 19 in British Columbia and Atlantic Canada) needs a parent or guardian to agree to these terms before using Breakout. A parent or guardian can ask us at any time to see, correct or delete their child’s information, and can withdraw their agreement, which closes the account.
We don’t knowingly keep information about children under 13. If we learn we have, we delete it.
Who else handles it
A few companies run parts of Breakout for us. Each may use your information only to do that job, and must protect it:
- Supabase stores your account, profile and clips.
- Stripe processes Pro payments.
- Our hosting provider serves the website.
- Elite Prospects receives the name you search for when you look yourself up there, and sends back your public stats.
These providers may store or process information outside your province or country, including in the United States, where it can be subject to that country’s laws. We share information with anyone else only when you ask us to, or when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you delete it, your profile, outreach, games, clips and videos are deleted at once. Copies in our providers’ backups are gone within 30 days. Stripe keeps payment records for as long as tax and financial law requires.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can:
- download everything we keep about you, from Profile → Download my data;
- correct it, by editing your Profile, or by writing to us;
- delete it, from Profile → Delete account;
- withdraw your agreement, by deleting your account;
- ask questions or complain, to baldassarre.hayden@gmail.com. If we can’t settle it, you can go to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec, your province’s privacy commissioner, or your state’s attorney general.
We answer requests within 30 days.
Keeping it safe
Information travels encrypted. The database lets each player read only their own rows, and clips sit in private storage that opens only through short-lived links. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach puts you at real risk of harm, we’ll tell you and the regulators the law requires us to tell.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll ask you, and a parent or guardian for a minor, to read and agree to it again before you carry on.
